In life there are positive and negative experiences. My experience with Corbett Creek Kennels (or Autumn Oak Kennels ) in Topsham Vermont was an extremely negative, horrible and heartbreaking experience. Needless to say I left there with my money and no puppy.
I purchased a Vizsla from Mary Corbett in 2014 and had a terrible experience. I have since run into multiple different people who have also had very bad or at least abnormal experiences with Mary all involving either sick dogs or lies. She breeds multiple types of dogs on her property. Our story is this: I contacted Mary in the summer of 2014 after finding her on the AKC breeders site. I told her that I was looking for a vizsla puppy and asked about her upcoming litters. She told me that she did not have any vizsla puppies available or any litters planned, but that she had some weizsla (weimaraner/vizsla cross) puppies if I was interested in one of those. I declined and stated that I was only looking for a vizsla. After I said this she responded right away to tell me that actually she would have some vizsla puppies very soon because she was buying an entire litter from out in Iowa that she planned to keep a female from to breed and then sell the rest and I could have first pick of the litter. Knowing nothing about dog breeding this didn't seem too abnormal to me. After some correspondence with her I scheduled a day to go down and look at the puppies and pick one out. Mary brought out three females and told me that two of them were 8 weeks and the other was 10 weeks. Obviously this did not add up in the slightest if they were from the same litter. She also told me that I would be taking the puppy that day which was not at all what we had discussed prior. The property was a mess and I was put off by seeing that she was breeding multiple different breeds of dogs and that they all lived outside in rundown kennels. But I was young and very excited about getting a puppy and we went through with it and left with the 10 week old who had a big, deep scar on her butt that Mary had no explanation for the cause. My dog is three now and the scar is still prominent, her tail was docked too short, and the color of her eyes are not to breed standard. While inside Mary's truly disgusting house that smelled terrible and was an absolute mess we did all of the paperwork and Mary told me that I would be receiving the official papers in the mail. I had to contact her and ask for for these papers repeatedly and when they finally came none of the information on them was correct. She was listed as both the breeder and the owner of the litter. Also, she had told me that the puppies were born 7/15/14, but the paperwork stated 8/1/14. The puppy definitely looked 10 weeks so this birth date is not possible for when I picked the puppy up in September. I was fed up at this point and just gave up since my dog is only a family pet and the papers didn't really matter to me. I am fortunate that my vizsla is a sweet, healthy, and amazing dog, but I am now quite fearful that she came from a puppy mill. The rumor from people I have talked to is that Mary buys puppies from vizsla puppy mills at a low cost and sells them for a profit. This makes absolute sense given that she had puppies of multiple ages at one time. A woman I ran into this summer reaffirmed this for me when she had a similar story of Mary telling her there were no puppies available, trying to sell her a weimaraner puppy, and then magically having vizsla puppies all of a sudden. Looking back I should have walked away at the first signs that something wasn't right, but I was naive fresh out of college and kind of felt like I was rescuing the pup from a terrible place. Something is not right there and I certainly don't think she should be recognized by the AKC and she should absolutely not have an A+ rating on better business bureau. Google her name and you will find that she did jail time and was fined $84,000 by OSHA when she was "breeding" in New Hampshire. After she did her time she moved to Vermont and changed the kennel name. Do your research and do not get a puppy from this woman.
I was not impressed when I showed up at Corbett Creek. There were so many dogs, puppies on top of puppies. The conditions were not terrible but the dogs were clearly starved for attention and clearly only used for breeding. This woman has been able to continue breeding for so long and has not been able to be stopped. She sells unhealthy dogs knowing this she still breeds the same parents of puppies with known genetic health problems. She has gone down hill in a bad way since she started and it needs to come to an end.
I would not even give it the dignity of being rated as a kennel.
Received a very sick puppy from her, I choose to help him and love him anyway, but will never return to this "kennel"
